We reached out to our RE/MAX Influencers—a panel consisting of RE/MAX Sales Associates from throughout Canada—to find out the most bizarre things they’ve seen left behind after homeowners move on. The responses were truly shocking.

Personal Items
Many RE/MAX Influencers shared stories of homeowners’ personal items being left behind when the sellers vacated the property. This included clothing, toilet plungers, war medals and several items that can be purchased at adult-only supplies shops.
But perhaps most surprisingly, a handful of RE/MAX Influencers reported that they had discovered abandoned urns filled with ashes.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”14441″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
Waste
It was reported that several sellers decided they didn’t want to deal with their garbage, so they left it behind for others to take care of. An uncooked turkey, a garbage can full of used diapers and a crockpot of moldy soup were among the abandoned items.
“I often show up well before the buyer so I can deal with any garbage or junk. Big items
A Volkswagen Bug, a malfunctioning hot tub, a grand piano and a boat were some of the big ticket items our RE/MAX Influencers reported discovering. Other large items—such as couches and freezers—had to be sawed in half to be removed from the property before the new owners could move in.
In a few instances, sellers removed large appliances even though they were included as part of the sale.

Animals
Sadly, many of our RE/MAX Influencers had stories of pets that had been left behind by the sellers. Dogs and cats weren’t the only animals found, either. A caged pet rat, a turtle, a pygmy goat and a 32-year-old horse were among the deserted animals.
On a positive note, most of the animals mentioned above were eventually given a home.
